How retailers can leverage mobile for strategic advantage

With the rise of smartphones and tablet computers, mobile technology is transforming the retail industry. More than ever before, customers and clients are able to research, compare and purchase products and services with their mobile devices wherever they are. However, it is not only externally where mobile apps can help create strategic advantage for retail businesses, there are also a plethora of internally focused areas where the use of mobile can vastly improve a retail organisations efficiency.

Focusing on specific case studies from organisations that Pocket App has worked with in the past, I will outline how organisations can streamline their internal and external processes by harnessing the power of mobile. This will not only encompass how companies can modernise internal processes by developing comprehensive sales tools, but also how they can boost operational efficiencies through other mobile solutions.

In this presentation, I will speak about and demonstrate the capabilities of mobile technology to develop and gain strategic advantage for retail businesses.

Remarketing of e-Commerce Mobile Applications

While common online, remarketing has only recently become a valid tool for mobile app marketers looking to get back in touch with lapsed users due to technical limitations of the app space. Today - it is possible to target advertisements to both existing users of your app that may not be performing desired actions (for example - users who abandon a shopping cart), as well as users who have downloaded your app but then uninstalled it.

During this talk, I will review the infrastructure needed in your app such as deep linking and data collection (Advertising ID / email) in order to be able to use remarketing tactics. In addition, I will review a number of key strategies specific to e-Commerce apps for using remarketing to achieve higher  sales and more downloads.

Breaking Down Silos: Integrated Mobile App Analytics & Marketing Stack

The analytics landscape for mobile apps has changed rapidly over the last couple of years. Not only have dozens of analytics tools come into market a lot of marketing tools (email platforms, push notification, dynamic remarketing) have opened up pathways to communicate with analytics.

This has had two major impacts:

  1. by being able to send data into analytics from myriad of different tools we have come closer than ever before to closing the loop on marketing attribution;
  2. the ease with which data can flow from analytics into marketing platforms has made taking data driven action extremely approachable.

I will discuss analytics platforms in context of these advances and how e-commerce mobile apps can best benefit from it.

During the talk I will survey the mobile ecommerce analytics landscape and review the popular choices, present my recommendations for a lean analytics stack (the data needed & how to collect it) and share examples of how analytics and marketing platforms can be seamlessly integrated for a personalized customer experience at scale.

This would include platforms for various parts of analytics lifecycle attribution (branch.io, Appboy), data collection (segment.com, Google Tag Manager)  general analytics (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Flurry, Firebase), personalization and communication (Intercom, Mailchimp, Autopilot, Firebase).

Notifications in e-Commerce mobile applications

When marketing your application, getting the download is only the tip of the iceberg. With the majority of users deleting new apps in the first 24 hours, how do you effectively get a user on board with your app and becoming an active user?

Communication with the consumer is vital - and a number of tools are available to the app marketer to create custom, trigger based notifications that can be sent to users that will drastically increase their engagement with your app.

During this talk, I will review tools and methods that can be used to engage your users to keep coming back to your app over and over. Focus will be primarily on AppBoy and Moengage, and discuss push notifications, in app messages, pop-ups and email notifications.

The Creative is the variable of success

Advertisers often miss the one element that truly matters in a campaign optimization: the creative.

Rich media and UX, perceptions and engagement, quality and “never seen before”, DCO and interactions, should be in every creative guideline.

How can you improve your creatives to get a stronger ROI and what are the best optimizations levers?

During this talk, we’ll outline how to push your creative approach to the next level, and really understand the levers of optimizations and the mistakes advertisers make when thinking “creatives”.
